🚨 BREAKING NEWS: Major Earthquake Strikes Southern California, State of Emergency Declared

April 12, 2025 – Los Angeles, CA

A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck Southern California early Saturday morning, causing widespread damage across Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties. The quake, which hit at approximately 4:37 AM local time, has already claimed at least 14 lives and injured over 300, according to local officials.

California Governor Elena Martinez has declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard to assist with rescue operations. "This is a time for unity and swift action. We are doing everything possible to support first responders and affected communities," the governor said in a press briefing.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported the epicenter near the San Andreas Fault, just outside Palm Springs. Aftershocks as strong as 5.2 have been recorded throughout the morning, and more are expected in the coming days.

Power outages, road closures, and structural collapses have been reported throughout the region. LAX airport has temporarily suspended flights, and several freeways are closed due to damage and debris.

President Thompson addressed the nation this morning, pledging full federal support and dispatching FEMA teams to the area. "We stand with the people of California, and we will rebuild, together," he said.

This is a developing story. More updates to follow.
